A new Low Pressure Area (LPA) has been detected off the coast of Mindanao, and according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), it has the potential to develop into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 to 48 hours. The LPA was situated 1,575 kilometers west of Mindanao as of Saturday morning. Pagasa weather specialist Grace Castañeda indicated that this potential storm is not anticipated to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) but may closely approach the PAR boundary, particularly west of Palawan.

Despite the primary storm system expected to remain offshore, Castañeda has cautioned that the trough associated with the LPA could lead to scattered rain showers over regions including the Zamboanga Peninsula and the provinces of Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi. Additionally, Pagasa also reported the dissipation of the previous LPA that had been inside PAR, which was formerly Tropical Depression Querubin. Castañeda noted this development in the Saturday morning bulletin, stating that the dissipated system would no longer pose any influence over the country.

On December 18, an existing LPA, which had briefly intensified as Tropical Depression Querubin, weakened and dissipated, indicating a shift in weather patterns in the region. The current LPA off Mindanao marks another potential weather event that could affect the area.
