The Spaniard had been on the mend following severe injuries incurred from a highside during the pre-season testing at Sepang earlier this month, which resulted in fractures to his right hand and left foot. After 24 hours of observation for a head injury, he underwent a surgical procedure led by Dr. Xavier Mir in Barcelona on February 7.

Although Martin’s team initially assured that he was recovering well and planned to travel to Thailand for medical clearance, the recent incident has necessitated immediate surgical intervention. As a result of this latest injury, Martin will miss the Buriram race, and the duration of his recovery remains uncertain.

The injury adds to a challenging winter for Martin, who transitioned to lead Aprilia’s MotoGP program after earning the title with Pramac Ducati in 2024. He had taken the Aprilia RS-GP for a limited trial run in November, but an incident at Sepang left him with minimal lap time before his recent accident.

In light of Martin’s injury, Aprilia plans to substitute Lorenzo Savadori for the Thai GP. The team had previously included Savadori in the Buriram test to accumulate vital experience with the RS-GP model. A statement from Aprilia confirmed the severity of Martin’s fractures and the decision to proceed with surgery for stabilization.
