Adelabu Commissions 990kWp Solar Hybrid Mini-Grid Project in Niger State

Chief Adebayo Adelabu has officially launched a 990kWp solar hybrid mini-grid project in Lambata Community, Niger State, which will provide electricity to approximately 3,500 households and local industries. The Minister emphasizes the government’s commitment to enhancing power reliability for lower bands, while also working on broader initiatives for additional power improvements across the nation.

The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has inaugurated a 990kWp solar hybrid mini-grid initiative aimed at delivering dependable electricity to customers in Bands D and E of the Lambata Community, situated in the Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State. This development is expected to benefit around 3,500 households and support small-scale enterprises within the community.
During the inauguration event, the Chief Executive Officer of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Abba Aliyu, commended the Minister’s commitment to enhancing electricity output for Bands A, B, and C, whilst ensuring the reliability of power supply for the lower Bands D and E. Aliyu stated, “The purpose of this project is aligned with the Minister’s strategy to enhance reliability for Bands D and E.
Furthermore, Aliyu detailed that the initiative forms part of a broader plan to install 40 interconnected mini-grids in collaboration with seven distribution firms. He mentioned that the Minister’s recent visit to Japan had opened avenues for an additional $200 million in financing, part of which is earmarked to deploy an extra 100 interconnected mini-grids throughout Nigeria.
Minister Adelabu reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to the sustainable operation of the project, stressing REA’s dedication to developing essential capacities for the ongoing maintenance of these energy systems.
