Over 150 Lawmakers Support Iranian Resistance Movement for Regime Change
A coalition of over 150 bipartisan lawmakers has introduced a resolution supporting the Iranian resistance movement aimed at regime change. The resolution backs Maryam Rajavi’s 10-point plan for a secular and democratic Iran and criticizes the current regime’s oppressive actions. It urges continued sanctions on Iran, emphasizing that true change must arise from the Iranian people, while signaling that the regime is currently at its weakest.
In a significant development, a coalition of over 150 bipartisan lawmakers introduced a resolution supporting the Iranian people’s resistance movement for regime change in Iran. Central to this resolution is the endorsement of National Council of Resistance of Iran President-elect Maryam Rajavi’s 10-point plan, which envisions a secular, democratic, and non-nuclear republic.
The resolution strongly criticizes the Iranian regime’s oppressive practices and calls for the continuation of international sanctions. It states, “The developments of the past year have left no doubt that the source of terrorism and warmongering in the Middle East region is the theocratic Islamic Republic of Iran.” Lawmakers assert that the failure of Western efforts over the past 45 years necessitates support for a democratic and pluralistic republic led by the Iranian people.
Introduced ahead of a Congressional hearing on Iran, the resolution was led by Congressional Iran Human Rights and Democracy Caucus Chairman Tom McClintock. He remarked that the Iranian regime has become a “pariah among the civilized nations of the world” and implied that change is imminent. McClintock emphasized that such oppressive conditions cannot persist indefinitely.
Rep. Zoe Lofgren, a Democratic co-signer of the resolution, stressed the importance of Americans rallying behind the resistance movement while acknowledging that meaningful change must originate from within Iran. She expressed hope that their bipartisan support would inspire and empower courageous individuals within the country.
In a live address to lawmakers, Rajavi asserted that the Iranian regime is experiencing one of its weakest periods since its inception. She described Iranian society as “explosive” and indicated that the government’s compounded failures are leading to increased unrest among the populace.
Alejo Vidal-Quadras Roca, a former European Parliament member, praised the resolution as a source of inspiration for the Iranian people. He noted that the American public had expressed their commitment to regime change by electing decisive leadership capable of confronting the Iranian government effectively.
The resolution introduced by bipartisan lawmakers marks a pivotal moment in supporting the Iranian resistance movement spearheaded by Maryam Rajavi. It emphasizes the need for a secular, democratic Iran, denounces the ruling regime’s oppressive practices, and calls for continued international sanctions. With growing support from U.S. lawmakers, there is an increasing anticipation of significant change in Iran’s political landscape.
