Binder and Bastianini Shine in Thailand: Highlights from 2025 MotoGP Season Opener
The 2025 MotoGP season began at the Buriram International Circuit amid challenging conditions. Brad Binder achieved an impressive 8th place finish after starting from 14th, while Enea Bastianini marked his debut with a 9th place. Maverick Viñales, in his Red Bull KTM debut, finished 16th. The opening race of the 2025 MotoGP season at the Buriram International Circuit in Thailand showcased challenging conditions, yet Brad Binder exemplified determination by finishing 8th after starting from 14th. With a sold-out crowd witnessing the sixth Thai Grand Prix, both Red Bull KTM Factory Racing and Red Bull KTM Tech3 secured valuable points for their teams by placing their KTM RC16 motorcycles in scoring positions.
Brad Binder advanced from 14th to 8th, earning 8 points in the championship. Enea Bastianini marked his debut with Red Bull KTM Tech3 by clinching 9th place after recovering from 20th on the grid, showcasing commendable racing skills. In addition, Maverick Viñales concluded his first race with Red Bull KTM in the top 16, narrowly missing point-scoring opportunities.
Pedro Acosta, who started in the second row, struggled in Turn 1, finishing in 19th position. In Moto3, Jose Antonio Rueda celebrated a stellar victory for the KTM GP Academy, with Alvaro Carpe securing a remarkable second place. Notably, the performance of all riders emphasized the essence of teamwork and strategic planning throughout the race.
Brad Binder reflected, “A really long race, for sure. I knew we had to be really easy on the rear tire … Anyway, I think we did a pretty good job considering it wasn’t an easy weekend.” Enea Bastianini noted that the soft tire choice contributed to his success, stating, “I think we made a step this morning and I was positive for the race… The race was good for this.”
Maverick Viñales acknowledged the challenges faced during the race, expressing, “Now we need to be more precise and try to improve… but had to use the front too much and it means the lap-times did not come easy.” Pedro Acosta described his day as tough yet educational, aiming for better results in future races. Team Manager Aki Ajo emphasized the importance of racing experience, highlighting, “Every lap is important… we know we need to improve in these types of climates.”
In Moto3, Jose Antonio Rueda remarked on his outstanding start to the season, saying, “To start the season like this is amazing. I’m really happy of the work with the team.” Meanwhile, Alvaro Carpe expressed joy at his podium finish, stating, “But this was amazing. I’m really happy with this podium.”
