Liberia Police IG Asserts Crime Scene Integrity; Welcomes U.S. Fire Experts

Inspector General Gregory O.W. Coleman confirmed that the crime scene of the Capitol Building arson remains intact for U.S. fire experts’ investigation. Three seasoned fire professionals will assist Liberian authorities, while Coleman stated there is already sufficient evidence to pursue charges against suspects involved. A briefing will follow once the investigation concludes.

Monrovia – The Inspector General of the Liberia National Police, Gregory O.W. Coleman, has assured the public that the crime scene associated with the arson attack on the Capitol Building remains fully preserved. This comes ahead of the arrival of technical fire experts from the United States who will assist in the investigation of the incident that occurred in late December 2023.

On February 27, 2027, G. Warsuwah Barvoul, the Director of the Liberia National Fire Service, disclosed that three fire experts from Minnesota, including former fire chiefs Kenneth Prillaman, Mark Lynde, and Jerry Streich, would be providing their expertise to the Liberia National Police’s ongoing investigation. Collectively, these professionals contribute more than 90 years of experience in fire safety and emergency management.

Inspector General Coleman elaborated during a press conference at the Liberia National Police Headquarters, stating the Liberian government has formally invited the U.S. fire experts. The request for their assistance, which was made last year, faced delays due to a leadership transition in the United States.

“When this incident occurred, we initiated all necessary mutual legal arrangements. However, the U.S. underwent a leadership transition, and the process had to restart,” Coleman remarked, emphasizing that the crime scene remains untouched, assuring the public, “There has been no tampering.”

The Inspector General clarified that the invited fire experts will not be conducting a separate investigation. Instead, their role will be to assist the Liberian authorities in enhancing the current inquiry. He stated, “These experts are here to work with us on our ongoing investigation. They are not launching a separate probe.”

Despite ongoing investigations, Inspector General Coleman confirmed that sufficient evidence has been collected to lay charges against those involved in the arson attack. “The police have enough grounds to lay charges, which is why we have proceeded accordingly,” he asserted, further noting that a press briefing will follow once the fire experts conclude their investigation.

In summary, Inspector General Gregory O.W. Coleman has asserted that the crime scene of the arson attack on the Capitol Building is untampered and preserved for the arrival of U.S. fire experts. These experts will aid the ongoing investigation, which has already yielded enough evidence to potentially charge suspects. A press briefing will be held to update the public after the conclusion of their investigation.
