Racing Association of Maldives Achieves FIA Membership
The Racing Association of Maldives has been granted membership in the FIA, allowing access to resources, international recognition, and opportunities for growth in motor sports. President Mohamed Shamih emphasized the benefits, including developing infrastructure and promoting road safety awareness. Despite facing challenges, RAM continues to engage in international competitions effectively.
The Racing Association of Maldives (RAM) has officially joined the International Automobile Federation (FIA), as announced following a vote at the FIA Annual General Meeting held in Rwanda on December 13. This significant milestone provides RAM with new resources and international recognition that will greatly enhance motor sports within the nation.
RAM President Mohamed Shamih stated that FIA membership has unlocked numerous opportunities for advancing motor sports in the Maldives. This affiliation ensures access to international standards for local competitions and opportunities to engage in FIA development programs and international events.
Furthermore, RAM plans to invest in infrastructure development for motor sports, including the establishment of dedicated facilities such as tracks and training centers, while environmentally conscious practices will be prioritized. The association also aims to collaborate with local agencies to promote road safety awareness and facilitate training for athletes across the country.
Registered in 2018, RAM has successfully organized numerous tournaments with strong support from stakeholders in the field. However, the association faced challenges, including the suspension of their 2024 RAAS Championship last December. Regardless of these obstacles, RAM clubs and athletes have actively participated in international competitions, achieving notable successes such as reaching the semi-finals in Sri Lanka’s Drag Wars this year.
In conclusion, the Racing Association of Maldives has achieved a significant advancement by gaining membership in the FIA, which presents numerous opportunities for the growth of motor sports in the country. RAM plans to leverage this membership to enhance local infrastructure, promote athlete training, and raise road safety awareness while navigating previous challenges successfully. The future looks promising for motorsport enthusiasts in the Maldives as RAM moves forward with its initiatives.
