Significant Drug Trafficking Arrests and Seizures by NDLEA in Nigeria

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) recently apprehended Mbala Abuba, a 42-year-old Angolan businessman, at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport. He was arrested for attempting to transport approximately 1.83 kilograms of cocaine, which he had ingested, to Istanbul, Turkey. During the observation period, he expelled 120 pellets of the illicit substance.

On the same day, NDLEA agents intercepted Ebuka Igwe, an auto parts dealer, at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, who had concealed 1.10 kilograms of cocaine in vehicle propellers destined for Angola. The NDLEA’s intelligence capabilities enabled them to thwart this attempt to traffic narcotics.

Additionally, Ezechi Cyprian was arrested while attempting to transport 5.4 kilograms of cocaine in his Toyota Sienna bus to Owerri, Imo State, following weeks of surveillance. Meanwhile, at Tin Can Island port, NDLEA discovered 128 parcels of a potent cannabis strain hidden within mattresses, leading to the arrest of the vehicle’s consignee, Bamidele Joseph.

In Delta State, the NDLEA, in collaboration with military forces, destroyed over 50,000 kilograms of cannabis cultivated on a 20-hectare farm and apprehended five suspects in connection with the operation. Furthermore, another interception led to the recovery of 1,111 kilograms of skunk from a truck on the Abraka-Orogun road.

Other significant seizures occurred across various states, including 1.05 kilograms of cannabis found concealed within detergent and a separate seizure of 24,700 tramadol pills. The NDLEA continued its efforts to combat drug abuse through public enlightenment initiatives across schools and communities nationwide.

The agency remains vigilant in the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA), actively educating the public on the dangers of substance misuse as part of a broader strategy to eradicate drug trafficking in Nigeria.
