A recent cross-border operation conducted from February 27 to March 2 targeted criminal activities along the borders of the Republic of South Africa and Namibia. This multi-agency initiative involved the South African Police Service, Customs, the Cross-Border Road Transport Agency, and the Border Management Authority, achieving significant results in maintaining border security.

According to Provincial Police Spokesperson Colonel Cherelle Ehlers, actions included search and seizure operations, vehicular checkpoints, and border patrols aimed at addressing prevalent crimes. The operation led to the inspection of 1,065 vehicles and 1,489 individuals, resulting in three arrests related to the illegal possession of drugs and undocumented foreign nationals.

Approximately R4,525 worth of Mandrax was seized, alongside cash suspected to be involved in illicit activities. Additionally, officials confiscated fish nets, fish traps, and illicit cigarettes valued at R150,156, together with tobacco products worth R2,000. Traffic violations during these operations resulted in fines totaling R14,600 being issued.

Colonel Ehlers reaffirmed that such operations will persist in collaboration with neighboring countries to ensure safety and security at the borders. Individuals are encouraged to report criminal activities via the MySAPS app or the hotline at 08600-10111. Reports of extortion can be made to the National Extortion Hotline at 0800-911-011.
