ICE and FBI Arrest High-Ranking MS-13 Leader in Major Operation
David Alejandro Orellana-Aleman, a 27-year-old high-ranking MS-13 leader, was arrested by ICE and the FBI on February 27 in Maryland. This operation is seen as a crucial step in disrupting MS-13’s network spanning the U.S., Mexico, and Europe. Both agencies commend the collaboration that led to this significant arrest, enhancing public safety in the process.
In a significant operation carried out by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), David Alejandro Orellana-Aleman, a high-ranking member of the MS-13 gang, was apprehended on February 27 in Hyattsville, Maryland. Orellana, a 27-year-old Salvadoran national, faces charges related to firearm possession, extortion, and terrorist affiliation in El Salvador. His arrest marks a pivotal moment in efforts to dismantle the transnational terrorist organization known as MS-13, which has been involved in criminal activities across the United States, Mexico, and Europe.
Matthew Elliston, acting Field Office Director of ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations, emphasized the significance of Orellana’s arrest in weakening the stormy leadership structure of MS-13. He stated, “The apprehension of David Alejandro Orellana-Aleman strikes a significant blow to the leadership and organization of the MS-13 terrorist organization.” Elliston noted the strong collaboration between ICE and the FBI in prioritizing public safety and combating illegal alien offenders in American communities.
FBI Baltimore Special Agent in Charge William J. DelBagno confirmed that Orellana’s arrest contributes to enhancing community safety in Maryland. DelBagno remarked, “Maryland is immediately safer because of this arrest. Working together, we took custody of one of the highest-ranking gang members in the United States,” stressing that Orellana’s removal from his leadership role signifies a successful operation against violent criminal networks.
Orellana had previously been arrested in El Salvador in 2016 for various charges, including firearm possession and extortion. He reportedly entered the United States illegally and had further legal issues in December 2024 related to driving without a license. Following his recent arrest by ICE, Orellana remains in custody as authorities work to ensure public safety in the region.
The recent capture of David Alejandro Orellana-Aleman underscores the collaborative efforts of ICE and the FBI in combating MS-13’s criminal activities. By apprehending a key leader within the organization, the agencies aim to enhance community safety in Maryland and disrupt the network of violence orchestrated by MS-13. Both agencies continue to prioritize public safety by targeting offenders and facilitating community reporting of suspicious activities.
