Calin Georgescu has officially declared his candidacy for the presidency of Romania, as reported by the Agerpres news agency. This announcement follows the annulment of the previous year’s presidential election by the Constitutional Court, where Georgescu had reached the runoff stage. The ruling coalition has scheduled the first round of the presidential elections for May 4, 2025, with a possible runoff on May 18, 2025.

Georgescu, supported by the Alliance for the Unity of Romanians (AUR) leader George Simion and Young People’s Party (POT) president Anamaria Gavrila, has submitted his candidacy backed by 324,000 signatures. The Central Electoral Bureau has confirmed the registration of his candidacy proposal.
