The warning underscored the heightened vulnerability of the rain-soaked Luzon region, indicating an urgency to relocate residents as the storm approached. “We understand if some would want to stay, but we have to get them out,” he stated to the press, emphasizing the importance of safety.

The military has mobilized disaster-response units to high-risk locations and has suspended combat drills in light of the severe weather. Col. Francel Margareth Padilla, spokesperson for the Armed Forces of the Philippines, reiterated their commitment to aid fellow citizens during emergencies, stating, “Our commitment remains steadfast in safeguarding and assisting our countrymen especially in times of disaster.”

In preparation for the storm, schools were closed, inter-island ferry services halted, and domestic flights suspended in affected areas. This marks the fourteenth significant weather disturbance impacting the Philippines this year, with forecasters also tracking another potential storm forming in the Pacific.

The prior two typhoons, alongside a tropical storm, resulted in over 160 fatalities and damage to numerous homes and agricultural lands, impacting more than 9 million individuals and necessitating emergency shelter for hundreds of thousands. In response to the devastation, the Philippines received urgent aid from Southeast Asian nations, particularly Singapore, as well as support from the United States to help deliver food, water, and essential supplies to the hardest-hit northern regions.
