Call for Justice Following Abubakar Lawal’s Death in Uganda

Mansour Lawal, the elder brother of the late Abubakar Lawal, a Nigerian football player who passed away in Uganda, has called for an investigation into his brother’s death. Lawal tragically died under unclear circumstances that were initially reported as a motorcycle accident, but later details indicated a fall from a balcony at a shopping mall in Kampala.

The Ugandan police confirmed that Lawal was visiting a Tanzanian friend when the incident occurred. Following his death, his football club, Vipers SC, and local fans honored him, and he was laid to rest in his hometown, Sokoto, Nigeria. Mansour has requested cooperation between the Nigerian and Ugandan authorities to achieve justice.

Mansour expressed gratitude to various parties, including the Nigerian government, the Sokoto State government, and Vipers Club for their support and assistance in repatriating his brother’s remains. Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), has called the situation both tragic and suspicious, insisting on a transparent investigation. She conveyed her condolences and emphasized the need for proper accountability regarding Lawal’s untimely death. Lawal, 29, had a career that took him from Wikki Tourists to Nasarawa United, and ultimately to Vipers SC in Uganda, after a stint in Rwandan football.
