Gunmen Abduct NDDC Managing Director’s Special Adviser in Bayelsa State

Mr. Akari Loveday, Special Adviser to the NDDC Managing Director, was kidnapped while traveling to Ayakoro in Bayelsa State. Kidnappers intercepted his boat but faced difficulties escaping after their engine failed. Security forces are actively searching for him, although police have not confirmed the incident as of yet.

Mr. Akari Loveday, the Special Adviser on Domestic Affairs to the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), was abducted on a Friday while traveling along the river towards Ayakoro community, located in Ogbia Local Government Area, Bayelsa State. This area is also the hometown of Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the NDDC Managing Director.

Reports indicate that the kidnappers intercepted the boat carrying Mr. Akari and others, forcibly taking him aboard their vessel. However, sources disclosed that their escape was hindered when the engine of their boat malfunctioned. Consequently, they managed to paddle to the riverbank and fled into the surrounding bush with the victim.

Authorities, including police officials, have initiated extensive search operations throughout the region to locate Mr. Akari. A local source remarked, “The SA Domestic to the NDDC MD has been kidnapped… They took him out of the boat, but as they tried to get away, their engine stopped suddenly.” Law enforcement presence has been reported at various checkpoints, conducting stop-and-search activities in the vicinity.

When reporters sought verification, Mr. Musa Mohammed, the spokesperson for the Bayelsa State Police Command, stated he lacked information about the incident, saying, “I’m not aware of it.”

The recent kidnapping of Mr. Akari Loveday, a key figure within the Niger Delta Development Commission, underscores the ongoing security challenges in Bayelsa State.
