Sudiksha Konanki, a 20-year-old student from the University of Pittsburgh, is the focus of an investigation by Dominican Republic authorities following her disappearance on a beach in Punta Cana. Reported missing last Thursday, she was last seen walking on the beach at Riu Republica Resort around 4:50 a.m. (local time).
Originally from Washington, D.C., Konanki was in Punta Cana with friends when she went missing. The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office in Virginia received the report and is collaborating with local authorities to locate her. A spokesperson stated, “Our office was contacted Thursday night about a missing Loudoun County woman who was on a trip in the Dominican Republic, specifically in Punta Cana.”
At the time of her disappearance, Sudiksha was identified as wearing a brown bikini, large round earrings, and a metal anklet on her right leg. Additional details describe her physical appearance, noting she is approximately 5.3 feet tall, with black hair and brown eyes.
The University of Pittsburgh has expressed deep concern and is actively supporting Konanki’s family during this difficult time. University spokesman Jared Stonesifer stated, “We are in contact with Sudiksha Konanki’s family, as well as the Loudoun County authorities, and have offered our full support in their efforts to find her and bring her home safely.”
The Dominican Republic’s Civil Defense, a specialized search and rescue unit, commenced their search for Konanki on Saturday and is continuing their efforts.
