Three Foreign Tourists Arrested for Assaulting Russian Tourist in Phuket

Three foreign tourists were arrested in Phuket for allegedly assaulting a Russian man, Aleksandr Belinskii, who intervened when they attempted to rape two Finnish women. The suspects, identified as nationals from Germany and Turkey, claimed they only wanted to help the women. They are currently in custody facing legal actions.

On Saturday, police in Phuket arrested three foreign tourists accused of assaulting a 44-year-old Russian man, Aleksandr Belinskii, at a hotel in Patong subdistrict. Belinskii sustained facial injuries while attempting to intervene when the suspects allegedly attempted to assault two Finnish women in their hotel room.

The two Finnish women reported that three men, also foreign nationals, forcibly entered their room and attempted rape. Belinskii, passing by their room, tried to halt the assault, prompting the attackers to turn on him before fleeing the scene.

The suspects were later located in a nearby hotel and identified as Aksu Cemre Can, 30, and Aksu Ali Cem, 22, both from Germany, and Yanyana Salman, 23, from Turkey. They claimed their intentions were benign, stating they aimed to escort the Finnish women back to their hotel after socializing at an entertainment venue.

The suspects explained that upon encountering Belinskii, who they believed was the women’s boyfriend, a dispute arose that escalated into violence. The three men were subsequently taken to Patong Police Station for further legal actions.

The incident in Phuket underscores ongoing safety concerns for tourists. The prompt response by the police led to the identification and arrest of the suspects, illustrating law enforcement’s commitment to maintaining order.
