Investigation Called for in Murder of MACBAN Chairman in Kwara
The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria has urged for an investigation into the murder of its Kwara chapter chairman, Idrissu Abubakar, who was killed by unidentified gunmen outside his home. This tragic event highlights ongoing violence against MACBAN leaders and calls for urgent action from security agencies.
The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has requested that security agencies conduct a thorough investigation into the murder of its Kwara chapter chairman, Idrissu Abubakar. National president Baba Ngelzarma made this appeal following the confirmation of Mr. Abubakar’s death by the police. He was tragically shot by unidentified assailants outside his residence in Oke Ose, Ilorin East LGA on Saturday night, with the police recovering five spent shells from the scene.
Idrissu Abubakar, who was 33 years old, was described as a dedicated advocate for peace and the advancement of pastoralists in Nigeria. This incident marks a grim continuation of violence against MACBAN leaders, with Mr. Abubakar being the second chairman fatally attacked this year, following the murder of Katsina state’s newly elected chairman, Alhaji Sirajo Mairana. Mr. Abubakar is survived by two wives, six young children, and his elderly mother.
In his statement, Mr. Ngelzarma emphasized the need for a comprehensive investigation into this pattern of violence targeting MACBAN leaders, noting that the association has grieved the loss of over seven state and local chairmen in the past two years. Furthermore, he highlighted the alarming disappearance of national vice-president Alhaji Manir Lamido earlier this year during travel between Katsina and Kaduna states. The association pledges to take all necessary measures to uncover the perpetrators responsible for this tragic act.
In summary, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria has called for an investigation into the murder of its Kwara chairman, Idrissu Abubakar. This incident underscores a concerning trend of violence against MACBAN leadership, and the association is prepared to take measures to ensure justice. With the loss of several leaders in recent years, it is imperative that security agencies address the ongoing threat to pastoralist community leadership in Nigeria.
