The missing woman, identified as Konanki, was vacationing with five female friends at a hotel in Punta Cana. She reportedly entered the beach with a male companion who is now under investigation. Initially, authorities feared she had drowned based on his account, which suggested she was swept away by waves. However, the investigation is ongoing to corroborate his story.

Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman confirmed that the man accompanying Konanki did not travel to the Dominican Republic with her group, though he has been identified in Dominican media as a 24-year-old Iowa man. The National Police revealed that he has been interviewed, and further inquiries are being conducted to validate his initial statements.

As nearly a week has passed since her disappearance, extensive searches involving various resources, including boats, helicopters, drones, and hundreds of law enforcement personnel, have yielded few leads. The National Police’s statement emphasized the importance of reinterviewing everyone who knew Konanki, including hotel staff, to gather crucial information regarding her last known movements.

Dominican President Luis Abinader has ordered the mobilization of all necessary resources for the search, enhancing efforts with advanced marine technology and additional personnel. He shared his suspicions, saying, “That’s why we feel that this could be an abduction or kidnapping, because [she] is not in the water, not anywhere.”
