Sudiksha Konanki, a 20-year-old University of Pittsburgh student, has gone missing in Punta Cana during spring break. Her father is urging authorities to consider kidnapping or abduction, as search efforts for her continue. The university and local law enforcement are supporting the investigation.
A 20-year-old University of Pittsburgh student, Sudiksha Konanki, has gone missing in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, while on spring break with friends. Her father, Subbarayudu Konanki, has urged authorities to broaden their investigation, as she has not been found after four days since her last sighting before dawn on March 6.
Search efforts by Civil Defense officials continue as Konanki’s father expressed concern, stating, “It’s four days, and if she was in water, she would likely have been strewn to shore.” He has requested a consideration of multiple scenarios, including the possibility of kidnapping or abduction.
The University of Pittsburgh is actively engaged with both the family and local authorities, providing support in the search for Konanki. The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office in Virginia is also involved, collaborating with federal agencies and university police in conjunction with the Dominican National Police’s investigation.
Konanki, accompanied by five friends from her university, arrived in Punta Cana on March 3rd. Upon learning of her disappearance, her parents traveled to the resort area. Additional investigation efforts have focused on the water, and a formal complaint was lodged to explore other avenues, noting her personal items, including her phone and wallet, had been left with friends, which her father described as unusual.
In his complaint, Konanki emphasized the need for immediate action by authorities, urging them to investigate both the potential for accidental drowning and the risk of foul play.
The ongoing search for Sudiksha Konanki highlights the distressing situation faced by her family and friends. There is a rising concern over her well-being, prompting her father to advocate for a broader investigation into potential foul play. The involvement of law enforcement agencies indicates the seriousness of the case, as efforts continue to locate the missing student and ensure her safe return.
