Trial of Alleged Tallismanus Farmer Murderer Commences in Windhoek High Court
Rodney Hoxobeb is set to stand trial for allegedly murdering his employer, Christof Mungunda, in September 2022 at the Tallismanus settlement. Following a dispute, Hoxobeb is accused of attacking Mungunda with an axe handle and a rock. He then fled the scene with Mungunda’s vehicle, driving recklessly under the influence of alcohol. The Windhoek High Court will commence the trial of Rodney Hoxobeb, a farmworker accused of murdering his employer, Christof Mungunda, at the Tallismanus settlement. The incident occurred in September 2022, where Hoxobeb allegedly killed Mungunda following an argument and subsequently stole his Toyota pick-up truck.
Hoxobeb has been employed by Mungunda since July 2022. Allegedly, on September 16, a dispute ensued, leading Hoxobeb to express his intent to kill Mungunda to his girlfriend. Subsequently, he attacked Mungunda with a wooden axe handle as the latter returned home after turning off a generator.
According to the indictment, Hoxobeb inflicted multiple blunt-force injuries to Mungunda’s head and body, and after realizing Mungunda was still alive, struck him with a rock. A postmortem confirmed that Mungunda died from blunt-force trauma. After the killing, Hoxobeb fled the scene with his girlfriend and her cousin, colliding with a co-worker while attempting to escape.
The state has alleged that during his flight, Hoxobeb consumed alcohol and drove recklessly without a license. He faces multiple charges, including murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, reckless driving, and driving under the influence of alcohol.
