Authorities Identify Person of Interest in Disappearance of Sudiksha Konanki
Loudoun County deputies have identified Joshua Riibe as a person of interest in the disappearance of Sudiksha Konanki, missing since March 6, 2023, in the Dominican Republic. Security footage indicates that she was last seen walking towards the beach with friends. The investigation is currently classified as a missing person case, not a criminal one, with authorities considering the possibility of an accidental drowning.
Authorities in Loudoun County, Virginia, have named 24-year-old Joshua Riibe as a person of interest regarding the disappearance of 20-year-old Sudiksha Konanki, a college student missing since March 6, 2023, in the Dominican Republic. According to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, this designation does not imply a criminal investigation at this time.
Newly released security footage shows Ms. Konanki and friends heading towards the beach early on March 6, 2023, in Punta Cana, followed by footage of four friends returning to the hotel an hour later. Notably, Ms. Konanki and another man were absent from the return images, raising concerns about her whereabouts.
Reportedly, the man who returned informed police that he and Ms. Konanki had been swimming before he fell asleep on the beach. Riibe has not been accused of any criminal activity, as authorities in both Virginia and the Dominican Republic maintain that this is still classified as a missing person case.
Ms. Konanki was in the Dominican Republic for spring break with friends from the University of Pittsburgh, where she is pursuing a degree in medicine. Sheriff Mike Chapman disclosed that at the time of her disappearance, Ms. Konanki was with individuals not affiliated with her travel group.
Sheriff Chapman has also communicated with U.S. federal authorities, including the FBI, who are assisting in the investigation alongside Dominican officials. Currently, the investigation is focused on the possibility of an accidental drowning.
The investigation into the disappearance of Sudiksha Konanki remains ongoing, with specific emphasis placed on her activities prior to her disappearance. Joshua Riibe has been named a person of interest, although no criminal accusations have been made against him. The involvement of federal agencies like the FBI suggests a collaborative effort to resolve this case, which is being treated as a potential accident.
