Zelensky Hosts News Conference Following US-Ukraine Ceasefire Talks
Ukrainian President Zelensky held a news conference post ceasefire discussions in Saudi Arabia, revealing agreement on a ceasefire and military aid restoration. Kremlin’s spokesperson remarked on Moscow’s reluctance to accept proposals without addressing their concerns. Senator Rubio articulated the importance of deterrence for sustained peace.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky conducted a news conference following US-Ukraine ceasefire negotiations in Saudi Arabia on March 12. The discussions yielded positive outcomes, including proposals for a ceasefire and the restoration of US military aid and intelligence assistance to Ukraine.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov indicated that Moscow would withhold comments on these proposals until engaging in dialogue with the United States. Russian sources reported to Reuters that President Putin is unlikely to accept the ceasefire as currently presented, emphasizing that Moscow’s concerns need to be addressed first.
Senator Marco Rubio stated in Ireland that the US intends to contact Moscow regarding this agreement. He mentioned, “We’re going to say that Ukraine is prepared to stop all battlefield activity and begin the immediate process in negotiating our enduring end of the war.”
Rubio highlighted the importance of establishing deterrence against Russia as an essential element for achieving lasting peace in Ukraine. He remarked, “There’s no way to have an enduring peace without the deterrence piece being part of that.”
In conclusion, the US and Ukraine have engaged in promising ceasefire discussions, which include military aid restoration. However, Russia’s response remains contingent upon further conversations with the US. Key figures emphasize the necessity of deterrence in ensuring lasting peace in Ukraine.
