U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) successfully apprehended a Brazilian fugitive on January 22 in Everett, Massachusetts. The individual, 38 years old, is wanted in Brazil for armed robbery. Acting Field Office Director Patricia H. Hyde emphasized the seriousness of his charges and the threat he posed to local residents, affirming ICE’s commitment to public safety and preventing New England from becoming a refuge for criminals.

The Brazilian suspect initially entered the United States illegally on October 15, 2020, when U.S. Border Patrol apprehended him. After being issued a notice to appear before an immigration judge, he was returned to Mexico shortly after. However, he unlawfully re-entered the U.S. on April 2, 2021, leading to his second arrest. An immigration judge released him on bond on September 27, 2021.

On May 20, 2024, authorities in Brazil issued an arrest warrant for the fugitive for armed robbery, a charge that could result in a 16-year prison sentence. Currently, he remains in ICE custody following his recent arrest.
