A tragic incident unfolded in Wepener, Free State Province, South Africa, where a Bangladeshi youth, Kamrul Islam, aged 33, was fatally shot by assailants on Thursday evening. Originally from Karmullahpur village in Daganbhuiyan, Feni, Kamrul had relocated to South Africa twelve years prior to seek better economic opportunities and had recently established his own business.

According to Kamrul’s younger brother, Kamruzzaman, the attackers approached Kamrul as he was closing his shop around 9:00 PM, intending to rob him. Armed with a gun, they demanded cash and valuables, and when they suspected more money was available in Kamrul’s parked vehicle, they forced him to the car. During a violent confrontation, one of the robbers shot him in the chest, resulting in his immediate death.

Kamrul had aspirations of returning to Bangladesh soon to marry, having recently built a new home for his family. The news of his untimely death profoundly affected his family, especially his mother, who has been fainting from distress. The family has reached out to the Bangladesh embassy to facilitate the repatriation of Kamrul’s body.

SM Azharul Islam, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Daganbhuiyan, stated that local authorities are prepared to assist Kamrul’s family in any efforts to bring his body back to Bangladesh, should they require support during this difficult time.
