Musembi had been accused of driving the vehicle that transported Scott’s body from Pipeline in Nairobi to Makongo Forest in Makueni County, where it was found on February 22. Scott, who had recently arrived in Kenya for a conference, was reported missing on February 17. Authorities suspect he was deceived into attending a fake business meeting before his murder.

Prior to his death, Musembi went into hiding, initially at a relative’s home in Dandora, then at a friend’s residence. The friend, unaware of his criminal involvement, later turned him over to police. On Tuesday, after returning home, the friend found Musembi unconscious in his room, foaming at the mouth and bleeding from his neck, which prompted immediate medical assistance that ultimately proved unsuccessful.

An autopsy is scheduled to determine the exact cause of Musembi’s death, as stated by Director of Criminal Investigations, Mohamed Amin. Musembi was one of three suspects in the ongoing investigation into Campbell Scott’s murder, alongside Benard Mbunga Mbusu and Alphonse Munyao Kilewa. Two additional suspects, Alex Mutua Kithuka and Albunus Mutinda Nzioki, are already in police custody and assisting with inquiries. Investigators believe Scott was killed at Mutua’s home before efforts were made to withdraw money from his accounts using his credit cards.

The search for Musembu’s accomplice, Mbusu, continues after he was last seen with Scott on February 16, as captured by surveillance footage, and he is known to have a prior criminal record dating back to 2018.
