Upon pleading not guilty to the charges of defrauding by false pretenses, the court, presided over by Mr. Isaac Addo, granted him bail set at GH¢75,000 with two sureties.

The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Daniel Ofori-Appiah, revealed that the officer’s relatives were in need of a Toyota Pickup and a Hyundai i30 salon car. A friend introduced the officer to Adu-Twum, who presented himself as a businessman. They met in Abelemkpe, where Adu-Twum indicated that the vehicles were available for immediate auction, prompting the officer to quickly gather the required payment of GH¢72,000.

Adu-Twum collected GH¢40,000 at his office in Abelemkpe and an additional GH¢32,000 at the officer’s office in the Ministries, promising delivery of the vehicles within a week. However, after receiving the funds, Adu-Twum vanished and was not apprehended until January 15, 2025. During investigations, he refunded GH¢25,000 to the officer, but still faces legal consequences for the remaining amount.
