Illegal Miner Sentenced for Theft in Tarkwa

Enoch Buamah, 19, was sentenced to three months in hard labor for stealing items worth GH¢7,563. He pleaded guilty to theft and related charges. The items were stolen from Patricia Kyei’s residence, which was burglarized while she attended a program. Community task forces aided in his arrest and the recovery of the stolen goods.

In a notable ruling, the Tarkwa District Court One sentenced Enoch Buamah, a 19-year-old illegal miner, to three months of hard labor imprisonment for theft. The court found him guilty of unlawful entry, property damage, and stealing, with the sentences for each charge to run concurrently.

During the court proceedings, Prosecutor Inspector of Police Patrick Essien reported that Patricia Kyei, a hairdresser from the Nyametease community, was the complainant. Kyei had secured her house and left for an event in Akotom on December 11, 2024, only to discover upon her return on March 12, 2024, that her home had been burglarized.

Inspector Essien detailed that Kyei’s property was extensively damaged, including the destruction of a door lock valued at GH¢1,000. The items stolen included a television set, clothing, cooking utensils, and various household goods, totaling GH¢7,563. Upon investigation, a task force tracked down Buamah, who admitted to the crime and led them to his residence where the stolen items were recovered.

Buamah was subsequently arrested and handed over to police authorities at Aboso. Following a thorough investigation, he was formally charged with the theft.

The Tarkwa District Court has reinforced its stance against theft, imposing a three-month sentence on Enoch Buamah for burglary. This case underscores the collaborative efforts of community task forces and law enforcement in effectively addressing criminal activities, ensuring justice for victims like Patricia Kyei. The recovery of stolen items demonstrates the importance of vigilance and community involvement in maintaining safety.
