Updates on Tropical Storm Jude Impact in Mozambique’s Central and Southern Regions
Tropical Cyclone Jude affected Mozambique, causing gusty winds and significant rainfall. As of March 12, it was moving towards the Mozambique Channel, with predictions that nearly 275,000 individuals might be impacted. The Shelter Cluster is actively mobilizing resources for response efforts.
On March 6, 2025, a low-pressure system emerged in the southwestern Indian Ocean, subsequently developing into Tropical Cyclone Jude. After making landfall on March 10 in the Mossuril district of Nampula province, it produced gusts of winds reaching 195 km/h and intense rainfall exceeding 250 mm within 24 hours. Later, the system regressed to a severe tropical storm, continuing to unleash heavy rains over northeastern Zambezia province along with flood alerts in several other provinces including Nampula, Tete, Manica, and Sofala.
In summary, Tropical Storm Jude has significantly impacted Mozambique, with the government and humanitarian agencies projecting that between 120,000 and 275,000 individuals may be affected.
