US Strikes in Yemen Result in Casualties Amid Tensions with Houthis and Iran

These operations are the first since President Donald Trump assumed office in January and prompted the Houthis’ political bureau to label them a “war crime.” The bureau stated that Yemeni armed forces are prepared to respond with equal force to any escalations. In addition, President Trump warned the Houthis to cease their attacks or face severe repercussions.

Citing threats against shipping in the Red Sea, Trump declared, “YOUR TIME IS UP, AND YOUR ATTACKS MUST STOP, STARTING TODAY.” He also demanded that Iran halt its support for the Houthis, asserting that the United States would hold it accountable for any threats to American interests and global commerce.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi responded by stating that the U.S. lacks authority to dictate Iran’s foreign policy. He condemned U.S. actions and called for an end to perceived injustices, particularly concerning Yemen. Additionally, the Trump administration has recently designated the Houthi group as a “foreign terrorist organization,” restricting U.S. interactions with them.

The Houthis, who have controlled significant portions of Yemen over the last decade, have engaged in numerous attacks against vessels following the recent escalation of the Israel-Hamas conflict. They claim these attacks are expressions of solidarity with Palestinian causes.
