Voting for the 2025 World Zionist Congress election in the United States has significantly increased, showing a remarkable 122% rise in the first week compared to the previous election in 2020. As reported in a press release on Monday, between March 3 and March 10, 53,213 votes were recorded, which is a significant growth from the 23,938 votes during the same period in 2020. Given the current pace, expectations are high that the election will exceed the previous record of 123,575 total votes cast.
This election, held every five years, allows Jewish individuals in the US the opportunity to influence Israel’s future, support Zionism, and affect Jewish communities globally. The election will select 152 delegates from the US, about one-third of the total Congress, who will collaborate with international representatives to shape the leadership and priorities of key organizations, including the World Zionist Organization, Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael-Jewish National Fund, and the Jewish Agency for Israel.
Funding directives for over $1 billion annually to support Israel and Jewish communities will be determined by these Congress decisions. Herbert Block, Executive Director of the AZM, expressed satisfaction with the participation rate, noting that, “By turning out in record numbers, American Jews are showing they are proudly Zionist and are sending a clear message that the stakes for the Jewish and Israeli future are higher than ever.”
A record 22 organizations, representing a diverse array of political affiliations and cultural backgrounds, are competing this election, an increase from the 14 organizations that participated in 2020. Furthermore, with over 2,900 candidates running from 43 states and territories, the current election also shows over 60% growth compared to the last.
The 39th World Zionist Congress is scheduled to take place in Jerusalem from October 28 to 30, 2025, following this year’s election.
The surge in US voter participation for the 2025 World Zionist Congress election indicates a significant engagement among American Jews regarding the future of Zionism and Israel. With increased competition and a diverse array of candidates, this election highlights the evolving landscape within the Jewish community. The outcomes will have a profound impact on funding and leadership priorities, reinforcing the importance of diaspora involvement in shaping Jewish identity and support for Israel.
