Afenyo-Markin’s Visit to Dr. Addison Following National Security Raid
Alexander Afenyo-Markin visited former BoG Governor Dr. Ernest Addison after a raid by National Security operatives led by Richard Jakpa. The raid, which involved armed men and resulted in no significant findings, has left the Addison family traumatized and raised concerns about government accountability.
Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, recently visited Dr. Ernest Addison, the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, following an alarming raid on his residence by National Security operatives. The raid, which occurred on March 19, involved armed men led by Richard Jakpa, the Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat.
During his visit, Mr. Afenyo-Markin expressed his outrage over the incident, offering his support to Dr. Addison and promising to seek accountability from the government. Approximately 20 armed operatives conducted the raid at Dr. Addison’s home in Roman Ridge, Accra, while he was present. The intruders, some masked and equipped with AK-47 rifles, disabled the CCTV system upon entering the property.
The National Security agents demanded access to alleged vaults within the house, which Dr. Addison informed them did not exist. Despite this clarification, the operatives continued their search and reportedly ransacked the residence. Sources indicate that no vaults or substantial sums of money were located, and the operatives ultimately confiscated the CCTV monitor and control device after finding nothing of interest. This incident has left the Addison family traumatized, according to a close friend.
In summary, the visit by Afenyo-Markin to Dr. Ernest Addison follows a troubling raid conducted by National Security operatives. The armed intrusion raised significant concerns regarding the treatment of former officials, with no substantial evidence found during the search. The episode has understandably caused distress within the Addison family, highlighting issues of government accountability and security force conduct.
