The Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports, Salim Mvurya, has urged Kenyans to prioritize safety while participating in the thrilling motorsport event, the 2025 World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally. Kickoff is scheduled for Thursday in Nairobi, with the main events taking place in Naivasha until Sunday.

Mvurya emphasized the importance of caution, stating, “Remember to be cautious because the rally cars are quite fast, thrilling, and spectacular. We all want to return home in one piece.” To this end, enhanced safety measures will be in place, permitting a larger audience due to the return of the Safari Rally to the WRC calendar in 2021.

In addition to safety, Mvurya highlighted the government’s support for female drivers in motorsports. The conditions during the shakedown session were reportedly brutal, with Gacheru stating, “This is going to be the most challenging rally ever seen in Kenya, judging by today’s experience.” The 32km Camp Moran loop is expected to test the skills of the participants rigorously.

Finnish driver Kalle Rovanperä set the fastest time during the shakedown, showing impressive performance ahead of world champion Thierry Neuville and Ott Tänak, indicating a highly competitive atmosphere for the upcoming events.
