Russian Security Council Secretary Visits North Korea for Talks with Kim Jong Un

According to South Korean news agency Yonhap, Shoigu’s meetings are significant as they follow previous interactions between representatives from the two nations. Analysts from the Institute for the Study of War reported that Russia has increasingly turned to allies such as Iran and North Korea for assistance in its Ukrainian conflict. Furthermore, South Korean intelligence has revealed that North Korea has dispatched additional troops to Russia’s Kursk Oblast, although the specifics of personnel numbers remain classified.

The visit of Sergei Shoigu to North Korea underscores the strengthening military and political ties between Russia and North Korea in the context of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
