CRRC Ziyang Co. has successfully shipped three internal combustion locomotives to Mozambique, marking their first export of such units to the country. With 24 years of experience in Africa, CRRC Ziyang leads in diesel locomotive exports from China, having supplied over 1,200 units globally.

On March 10, 2023, three internal combustion locomotives manufactured by CRRC Ziyang Co. were shipped to Mozambique, marking a significant milestone as it is the first time a Chinese company has exported such locomotives to the nation. Developed independently by this subsidiary of CRRC Corporation Limited, these units are specifically engineered to navigate the varied operating conditions found in Africa.

The newly developed SDD1 diesel locomotives signal CRRC Ziyang’s successful re-entry into the African market and set the groundwork for the export of Sichuan’s locomotives this year. The technology behind the SDD1 units incorporates various innovations, including lightweight design optimizations, an efficient cooling system, and a sophisticated air intake unit designed for the demands of African operations.

To enhance their operational effectiveness, these locomotives are equipped with an intelligent control system that allows for real-time monitoring of performance, thus ensuring increased reliability and safety. The locomotives will primarily be utilized for passenger and freight shunting operations, playing a vital role in strengthening local railway transportation in Mozambique.

CRRC Ziyang boasts over two decades of service in the African market, with a record of delivering over 230 locomotives and DMUs to nearly 20 nations, including Sierra Leone and the Democratic Republic of Congo. As a leading exporter of diesel locomotives in China, CRRC Ziyang has supplied more than 1,200 locomotives to 34 countries, capturing over 50% of China’s total diesel locomotive exports.
