Family of Kidnapped Retired Director Appeals for Police Intervention
The family of kidnapped retired director Emmanuel Ofobrukueta seeks intervention from Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun. Ofobrukueta was abducted on January 13 while heading to collect his pension. Despite the payment of a ransom and assistance from a private tracking firm, he remains missing. The family expresses concerns about potential collusion and urges the police and government for support in securing his release.
The family of Emmanuel Ofobrukueta, a retired director who was kidnapped in Delta State, has appealed to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for his immediate intervention in securing the victim’s release. During a news conference in Abuja, Frank Tietie, the family’s solicitor and Principal Partner at Forthright Chambers, highlighted that Ofobrukueta was abducted on January 13, just before traveling to Asaba to collect his pension. The family asserts that despite efforts by authorities, the victim remains missing after two months in captivity.
Tietie reported that the family took proactive measures by engaging a private tracking company to aid in the victim’s rescue shortly after his abduction. They also paid a ransom of N4,020,000 to intermediaries who delivered the money to the kidnappers. Regrettably, the ransom did not lead to Ofobrukueta’s release, and there has been no communication from either the victim or his captors since.
Concerns have arisen within the Ofobrukueta family regarding the potential involvement of some individuals associated with the victim in the kidnapping plot. Although the family is losing hope, Tietie expressed confidence in the Nigeria Police Force’s capacity to resolve the case effectively, urging the I-G to take personal interest. He stated, “We believe the I-G has the resources and capable men and women of the Nigeria Police Force to deploy to Delta… to ensure that the victim is rescued.”
Additionally, Tietie called on the Delta State Government to conduct a thorough investigation to facilitate Ofobrukueta’s safe release, emphasizing the need for the authorities to support the victim’s family in these distressing times. He also urged the Nigerian Police and relevant entities to prioritize the rescue of all kidnapping victims in similar predicaments.
The plight of Emmanuel Ofobrukueta highlights the ongoing challenges of kidnapping in Nigeria. The assistance sought from the Inspector-General of Police underscores the family’s desperation for effective intervention. As the situation progresses, the call for comprehensive police action and government support remains critical in addressing such criminal activities and ensuring the safe return of victims.
