Ferreira’s plea detailed his anger when the infant cried due to hunger and a soiled diaper, leading him to abuse her violently. “I grabbed the baby hard at the back of her neck and hit her buttocks repeatedly,” he stated, explaining that he pushed her head against a surface and subsequently assaulted her to “give her something to cry about.”

Upon Brand’s return home, she discovered her baby critically injured. Ferreira admitted to trying to hide the severity of the injuries, delaying necessary medical attention. Unfortunately, the infant succumbed to her injuries the following day after being hospitalized.
