Nepal Provides 27 Tons of Relief Aid to Earthquake-Stricken Myanmar

The handover was attended by notable figures including the Nepali Ambassador to Myanmar, Harish Chandra Ghimire, and various Myanmar officials. A brief meeting ensued, during which Joint Secretary Adhikari expressed condolences to the victims’ families and wished for a speedy recovery for the injured. He acknowledged Myanmar’s earlier support to Nepal during the 2015 earthquake, reinforcing the solidarity between the two nations during this tragedy.

In his remarks, Adhikari emphasized the importance of cooperation between Nepal and Myanmar, stating that such initiatives foster closeness between the countries. Myanmar Official Heu Wai Lwin thanked Nepal for the assistance and shared grim statistics from the earthquake: over 3,590 lives lost, approximately 4,800 injured, and 148 individuals still missing.

Ambassador Ghimire noted that around 150,000 Nepalis work in Myanmar, with 18 having tragically lost their lives in the disaster and 15 currently reported missing. The earthquake, registering at a magnitude of 7.7, struck Myanmar on March 28. An organization representing Nepalis in the country has provided shelter to about 250 earthquake survivors, while a medical team from the Nepali Army has been offering emergency services, aiding over 1,300 individuals affected by the disaster.
