Truck driver Ignacio Cruz-Mendoza has been deported to Mexico after serving seven months for reckless driving that led to a fatal crash in Colorado. Ignacio Cruz-Mendoza, a truck driver convicted of reckless driving resulting in death from an incident on Highway 285 in Colorado, has been deported to Mexico following his prison sentence. Cruz-Mendoza was incarcerated for seven months after receiving a one-year sentence for his role in the fatal crash.
The crash occurred last June near Conifer when Cruz-Mendoza’s semi-truck, hauling large steep pipes, lost control and rolled over. This resulted in the pipes spilling onto the road, hitting multiple vehicles and tragically causing the death of 64-year-old Scott Miller. Colorado State Patrol determined that excessive speed and brake failure were significant factors in the accident.
Following his release from local corrections, Cruz-Mendoza was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in March 2023. He has a history of prior removals from the United States, being a Mexican national.
Ignacio Cruz-Mendoza’s deportation highlights the consequences of reckless driving resulting in fatalities. Following his conviction and subsequent prison time for causing the death of Scott Miller in a truck accident, his history of immigration issues culminated in his removal to Mexico after serving his sentence. The case underscores the importance of road safety and the legal ramifications of negligent behavior behind the wheel.
