Arabian Gazelles: Dubai’s All-Women Supercar Club Breaks Barriers

The Arabian Gazelles, the first all-women supercar club in the Middle East, recently held a rally in Dubai, bringing together women from diverse backgrounds united by their love for supercars. Founded eight years ago by Hanan Mazouzi Sobati, the club aims to challenge stereotypes and elevate women’s roles in the automotive scene. DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — In an inspiring showcase of camaraderie and passion for automobiles, a notable gathering of women took place recently in Dubai. They laughed, shared stories, and connected over a common love: supercars. Among them were engineers, entrepreneurs, and even housewives. This event was part of a car rally organized by the Arabian Gazelles, the region’s pioneering all-female supercar owners club, which attracted around 30 participants from the UAE and abroad over a four-day tour.

Founded eight years ago by Hanan Mazouzi Sobati, the Arabian Gazelles emerged from a desire to elevate women’s representation in the automotive scene. “It’s really a product of sheer frustration… because women were overlooked in this automotive scene,” Mazouzi Sobati explained while steering her Lamborghini towards Fujairah. Her love for cars dates back to her childhood when she was more interested in watching Formula 1 races than cartoons.

Mazouzi Sobati’s ambitions extend beyond mere car enthusiasts; she aims to shift societal perceptions regarding women and their involvement in supercars. Initially attending automotive events primarily designed for men, she often found herself the only woman present, frequently stepping in for her husband, who lacked enthusiasm for cars. In the early days, securing support from car brands for an all-female club was challenging.

“We want people to stop thinking there’s always a man because they see a woman in a supercar; either a husband, a partner, a sugar daddy,” she stated. However, perseverance is paying off, and she’s witnessing a gradual change in attitudes. Part of the Arabian Gazelles rally included an invitation from BMW for the women to experience cars on racetracks, marking a significant achievement in their journey.

“We do not need permission to drive, or to choose what kind of cars to drive. We do not need permission to have this passion,” she asserted emphatically. “If the seat is not available, we create the table, and we all sit.”,

This rally not only celebrated their love for high-performance vehicles but also highlighted their determination to redefine traditional gender roles in the automotive world.
