Key Suspect in Kasipul MP Were’s Assassination Captured at Border
Authorities arrested Isaac Kuria, a key suspect in the assassination of Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were, in Isebania while he attempted to flee to Tanzania. Eleven suspects are now in custody, including Were’s bodyguard and driver. Investigations continue as the DCI examines communications and transactions to uncover the entire conspiracy behind the murder.
In a significant development in the ongoing investigation of the assassination of Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were, authorities have apprehended a key suspect named Isaac Kuria, also known as “Kush.” He was arrested in Isebania, a town located near the Kenya-Tanzania border, while allegedly attempting to flee the country. This arrest comes after Were was fatally shot in broad daylight on Nairobi’s Valley Road.
Allan Omondi, Were’s personal bodyguard, his driver Walter Owino, and William Imoli, accused of organizing and financing the murder, are among the eleven suspects already in custody. The police’s swift actions reflect a methodical investigation following the shocking murder of the MP, which has sent ripples through political circles.
Kuria is believed to have orchestrated well-planned execution of MP Were, reportedly stalking his movements throughout Nairobi’s central business area prior to ambushing him. The details paint a troubling picture of a calculated attack that ultimately led to a deadly encounter.
According to investigators, Kuria fled to Mihang’o after the shooting, where he disposed of the firearm used in the attack. That murder weapon was later retrieved by authorities. His evasive actions included traveling through Narok on a motorcycle before boarding a public transport vehicle to Isebania, clearly attempting to evade capture. Investigators suspect he was in contact with relatives across the border who may have aided his escape plans.
Detectives managed to zero in on Kuria by intercepting his conversations with others already in custody. “We were monitoring his communications and knew he was trying to leave the country,” a source revealed. The fugitive’s arrest at a lodging in Isebania alongside another individual marked a pivotal moment in the ongoing investigation.
Both Kuria and his companion have been transported to Nairobi and are slated to appear at the JKIA Law Courts on Monday. The arrest has increased the number of individuals detained in connection with this case to eleven. Those under scrutiny not only include Were’s personal associates but also prominent figures such as businessman Phillip Aroko and Ebel Ochieng, director of the Lake Basin Development Authority, both suspected of financially backing the assassination plot.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is currently analyzing bank transactions and communications among the suspects to reconstruct the motive behind this heinous act. Meanwhile, the late MP was laid to rest on Friday at his family home in Kachien village in Kasipul, amid an ongoing mourning period and calls for justice.
The arrest of Isaac Kuria marks a critical turning point in the investigation into the assassination of Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were. A total of eleven people are now detained, including those in Were’s inner circle, while further inquiry into the financial backing of Assassination is being pursued. The investigation will continue as authorities aim to unravel the full extent of this tragic event and ensure that justice is served.
