ZIFA Schedules July 25 for Premier Soccer League Elections
ZIFA has announced July 25 as the date for elections to fill vacant positions in the Premier Soccer League, including chairperson, deputy chairpersons, and emergency committee members. The Women’s Premier Soccer League will hold elections on the same day. ZIFA head Nqobile Magwizi highlights the importance of transparent and inclusive processes.
The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has officially set July 25 for the elections to appoint a new chairman for the Premier Soccer League (PSL). This announcement follows a period of uncertainty for the league, which has had no chairman since Twine Phiri resigned back in December of the previous year.
In addition to the chairman position, key roles such as the deputy chairpersons and three emergency committee member spots are also on the ballot for election. The same election date, July 25, has been designated for the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) elections, where voters will choose a chairperson, vice chairperson, and five additional committee members.
Nqobile Magwizi, the head of ZIFA, emphasized the significance of these elections. He stated, “The PSL and WPSL elections represent an important milestone in the renewal of our football structures.” Magwizi assured that ZIFA is fully committed to overseeing a process that is credible, transparent, and genuinely inclusive, aimed at strengthening the foundations of football in Zimbabwe.
The upcoming elections for both the PSL and WPSL on July 25 mark a pivotal moment for the governance of football in Zimbabwe. With several key positions being contested, ZIFA aims to ensure that the electoral process is credible and transparent, a move seen as essential for the renewal of the sport within the country.
