Shoigu Applauds North Korean Troops for Defending Kursk
Russian security chief Sergei Shoigu commended North Korean troops for defending Kursk, saying they fought as if it were their own land. This was part of a broader message of cooperation during a meeting with DPRK officials in Moscow. Shoigu also announced future Russian delegations to North Korea to celebrate major holidays, signaling closer ties.
In a notable expression of solidarity, Russian security chief Sergei Shoigu commended North Korean troops for their efforts in defending the Kursk region against Ukrainian advances. He described their actions as being performed “as if it was their own motherland.” This statement was made during a meeting with Ri Chang Dae, the DPRK State Security Minister, in Moscow while attending a security forum on Wednesday.
Shoigu’s comments underscored the perceived camaraderie between Russia and North Korea, as he stated that the two nations are engaged from the “same trench” in their broader struggle against Ukraine and Western influence. The emphasis on shared interests highlights the deepening ties between these countries amid global tensions.
In addition to praising the North Korean military efforts, Shoigu announced upcoming visits by Russian party and parliamentary delegations to Pyongyang, scheduled for August and October. These visits are timed to coincide with significant holidays in North Korea, indicating an intent to strengthen political and diplomatic relations further.
This meeting and the subsequent declarations reflect a growing alignment between Russia and North Korea, as both nations seek to promote an alternative global order, countering Western dominance. Their collaboration appears to be gaining more momentum, particularly as the geopolitical landscape becomes increasingly complex and fraught with challenges.
Sergei Shoigu’s recent remarks highlight a significant moment in Russia-North Korea relations, emphasizing their shared goals and mutual support in the face of external pressures. With planned visits from Russian delegations to North Korea, these nations seem poised to deepen their partnership as they navigate a tumultuous international environment together.
