The Niger Police arrested a dismissed soldier linked to fraud involving N920,000. Over several days, he posed as a soldier to deceive PoS operators, leading to significant losses. The suspect confessed, stating he was dismissed from service in 2022. The investigation continues as more victims report similar incidents.

The Niger Police Command has arrested a former soldier for his alleged involvement in a series of fraudulent activities amounting to over N920,000. This information was disclosed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, in a statement made in Minna on Tuesday. The investigation began after a case of impersonation and fraudulent acts was referred from a magistrate court to the Tudun-Wada Police Division.

SP Abiodun reported that the fraud incidents began on May 12, where a suspect, posing as a soldier, visited a Point of Sale (PoS) shop near Musa Bello Primary School, Bida. He allegedly deceived the operator and walked away with N120,000. This was not an isolated case; just days later, on May 23, the same individual, dressed in military attire, swindled a PoS attendant in Kataeregi, taking N300,000.

Then on May 29, at about 4 PM, the suspect targeted yet another PoS shop along Mandela Road, where he took N500,000. In total, these fraudulent activities have led to a significant loss for the victims involved. Following these reports, police detectives used technical intelligence to track and apprehend Michael Musa, the man believed to be behind these schemes.

Upon his arrest, Musa was found wearing military uniform, prompting further inquiries. He confessed to the crimes and mentioned that he had been dismissed from the military back in 2022 in Benin, Edo State. The case remains under investigation, and authorities have noted that more victims are continuing to step forward with similar allegations against him.

The Niger Police Command has taken significant action by arresting a dismissed soldier in connection with a series of PoS frauds totaling N920,000. The suspect’s deceptive practices, which involved impersonating a soldier, have raised alarm among the local community as more victims are now coming forward. The investigation remains ongoing as the police continue to uncover further details related to these fraudulent activities.
