During questioning, James and Ibrahim reportedly confessed to plotting the kidnapping to demand ransom. Wasiu Abiodun, the spokesman for the Niger State Police Command, officially confirmed the details of the arrests in a statement released on Monday evening. He stated that the suspects would face thorough investigation and future prosecution. Abiodun elaborated, “On 13th June, 2025, at about 8 pm, based on a distress call, police operatives from Tafa Division arrested the two suspects who attempted to kidnap a victim’s sister. Their swift action led to the suspects’ arrest.”
He noted that the police are continuing their investigation, emphasizing that the situation is serious and that both suspects would soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further proceedings.
