Police recover stolen truck loaded with cement

Police in Niger State have successfully recovered a stolen truck that was carrying a considerable load of 900 bags of cement, and have taken three suspects into custody in relation to the case. The revelation came from the police command’s spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, who provided details regarding the operation on Thursday in Minna. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges of theft and crime management in the region, as well as the rapid response from local law enforcement.

Details of the theft and recovery

According to Mr. Abiodun, the truck was originating from Okpella in Edo State, en route to Gwagwalada, Abuja, when it was reported missing. On June 21, around 8:00 a.m., the vehicle, identified as a Howo truck bearing registration number HJA 995 XA, disappeared while its driver briefly stepped away from the vehicle to grab a bite at a near restaurant. It was during this time that perpetrators took the opportunity to redirect the truck to an undisclosed location, forcing the driver to quickly notify his manager about the incident. Fortunately, the vehicle was eventually traced to the Lambata area, thanks to prompt reporting and tracking efforts.

Suspects arrested and investigation underway

Upon learning of the theft, the Divisional Police Officer from Gawu-Babangida Police Division acted swiftly, assembling an operational team to investigate the report. The stolen truck was located on the Lambata-Lapai Road, with all 900 bags of cement still intact. Authorities apprehended three suspects: Bashir Isah (22), Ibrahim Yusuf (21), and Halidu Mohammed (28), all of whom lived in the Gbamita area of Lambata. The trio reportedly confessed to their crime, expressing intentions to sell the stolen goods to an alternative buyer. Police have begun a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the theft, as they seek to understand the broader implications and ensure justice is served.

The recent recovery of a stolen truck laden with cement in Niger State underscores ongoing issues of theft, but also the effectiveness of police response. Three individuals have been arrested and confessed to their involvement, indicating a proactive approach by law enforcement. This case emphasizes the importance of prompt reporting and law enforcement’s commitment to addressing crime in the region.
