Mazda to Launch Mazda 6e in Thailand in 2025, Expanding EV Line-up
Mazda will launch the Mazda 6e in Thailand in 2025, following its debut at the Brussels Motor Show. Mazda has announced that the Mazda 6e, which is known as the Mazda EZ-6 in China and manufactured by Changan Mazda, will be launched in Thailand in 2025. The vehicle made its debut at the Brussels Motor Show on January 10 and is set to arrive in Europe later this year. This move coincides with Thailand’s growing demand for electric vehicles, reinforcing Mazda’s commitment to expanding its EV portfolio in Southeast Asia.
Thailand is a crucial automotive production hub in Southeast Asia, and Mazda has had a presence in the country since 1955. By introducing the Mazda 6e, the company aims to enhance its electric vehicle offerings in the region. The Mazda EZ-6, which launched in China on October 26, 2024, has already showcased impressive sales figures, ranking among the top three mid-size new energy sedans with 2,445 units sold in November.
The Mazda EZ-6 is designed on Changan’s EPA hybrid platform and is available in seven variants, with pricing ranging from 139,800 to 179,800 yuan (approximately 19,300 to 24,800 USD). It includes options for battery electric vehicles (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicles (EREV). The BEV model features a motor output of 190 kW and offers a range of either 480 km or 600 km, while the EREV variant combines a 1.5L engine with a 160 kW motor, providing a total range up to 1,301 km.
Mazda and Mazda Thailand are investing approximately 5 billion Thai baht (around 148.37 million USD) to bolster their manufacturing capabilities in Thailand. With a production capacity of 100,000 units per year, the facility will prioritize the production of compact SUVs for both domestic sales and export to Japan and other ASEAN markets. Between 2025 and 2027, the company plans to release five electrified models, including the Mazda 6e.
In the Chinese market, Mazda has faced competitive challenges, reporting a 28.28% year-over-year decline in sales with Changan Mazda selling 6,604 vehicles in January 2025. This decline marks a continued trend over the past nine months, highlighting the broader market pressures on the brand. To counteract these challenges, Changan Mazda is expediting the transition to electric vehicles, emphasizing the importance of the new Mazda EZ-6 in its lineup while refining its gasoline models and pricing strategies.
