Renault Group Morocco Establishes New Engineering Center: RTMA
Renault Group Morocco has launched Renault Technology Morocco (RTMA), headed by Francisco José Martín Hernández. The new engineering center, located in Tetouan and Tangier, aims to strengthen engineering-manufacturing collaboration. The company demonstrated remarkable growth, achieving record vehicle production and exports, highlighting its leading position in Morocco’s automotive sector and economy.
Renault Group Morocco has announced the establishment of Renault Technology Morocco (RTMA), a new engineering center. Francisco José Martín Hernández has been appointed as its Director General, effective March 1. The center will be located in two sites: the headquarters in Tetouan, which will focus on technological activities, and a facility at the Renault Group plant in Tangier dedicated to industrial operations. This arrangement is intended to enhance collaboration between engineering and manufacturing divisions by ensuring proximity to production sites.
Hernández will report hierarchically to Cedric Combemorel, Deputy CTO – VP Global Engineering & Tech, and functionally to Mohamed Bachiri, Director General of Renault Group Morocco. The company noted, “His technical expertise and knowledge of the group’s challenges have led him to take on increasing responsibilities in Spain, Romania, and France.”
Equipped with extensive experience, Hernández is an industrial engineer educated at the Polytechnic University of Madrid and École Centrale de Lyon. He joined Renault in 2002 and has progressed through several pivotal roles in quality engineering and project management across various divisions, including mechanical and vehicle engineering. Previously, he was the Head of Vehicle Engineering Department at Renault Technology Spain.
The unveiling of RTMA coincides with a remarkable performance record for Renault Group Morocco, which produced 413,614 vehicles in 2024, an 8% increase from the previous year. The Tangier plant alone contributed 312,381 units, representing a 9% rise, while the SOMACA plant in Casablanca produced over 100,000 vehicles for the first time, totaling 101,233 units, a 7% increase.
Renault Group Morocco also saw strong export operations, with roughly 370,165 vehicles shipped to 68 global destinations in 2024. The Tangier facility was particularly notable, exporting 298,045 units, which comprised 95% of its production output, while Casablanca exported 72,120 vehicles, representing 71% of its total output. In the domestic market, Renault maintained a commendable 16.1% market share with 28,348 vehicles sold, and Dacia led with a market share of 25%, selling 39,330 units.
According to the company, Renault Group Morocco achieved a turnover of MAD 63 billion (approximately $6.3 billion), solidifying its status as the country’s largest private entity. Its automotive ecosystem represented 38% of Morocco’s automotive sector turnover and it employs over 10,000 individuals.
In conclusion, the establishment of Renault Technology Morocco marks a significant step for Renault Group Morocco, enhancing its engineering capabilities and fostering closer ties between engineering and manufacturing. Under the leadership of Francisco José Martín Hernández, the company continues to excel in production and export, reflecting a robust performance amid increasing market competitiveness. Renault Group Morocco’s substantial turnover and market share underscore its pivotal role in the national economy.
