Rahul Gandhi Calls for Discussion on Alleged Voter Fraud in Lok Sabha

Rahul Gandhi sought a Lok Sabha discussion on voter list concerns, supported by opposition parties pointing out flaws in voter registration across states, including Maharashtra and West Bengal. Trinamool Congress member Saugata Roy notably emphasized the necessity for a thorough revision of these lists before the upcoming assembly elections.

On Monday, in New Delhi, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi called for a Lok Sabha discussion regarding concerns over voter lists raised by several political parties. During the Zero Hour session, Mr. Gandhi emphasized that the entire opposition is unified in demanding a discourse on this matter, despite acknowledging that the government does not create the voter lists.

Mr. Gandhi highlighted, “The voter lists are being questioned across the country. Questions have been raised by the opposition in one voice in every state, including Maharashtra,” underscoring the widespread nature of the issue. Trinamool Congress member Saugata Roy also raised concerns during the session, noting discrepancies in voter lists in West Bengal, particularly pointing out instances of voters having identical Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) numbers across different constituencies.

Mr. Roy stated that a Trinamool delegation intends to meet the newly-appointed chief election commissioner to address these issues. He urged for a comprehensive revision of the voter lists, especially in light of the upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal and Assam next year. He expressed serious concerns about the integrity of the lists, asserting that similar flaws were noted in Maharashtra and Haryana, and stressed, “Let the total voter lists be thoroughly revised. The Election Commission should answer to the country why some mistakes occurred in the lists.”

In conclusion, the demand for a parliamentary discussion on alleged voter list irregularities reflects a significant concern among opposition parties regarding the integrity of the electoral process. Rahul Gandhi and other leaders seek clarification and revisions ahead of upcoming elections, highlighting the importance of accurate voter registration to ensure fair democratic practices.
