Tanzania Meteorological Authority Warns of Cyclone ‘JUDE’ Impacts on Rainfall
Cyclone ‘JUDE’ is present in the Indian Ocean and is expected to cause increased rainfall in Tanzania. The cyclone may weaken after impacting Mozambique but could regain strength. TMA advises vigilance and adherence to weather updates as the rainy season begins.
The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has reported that Cyclone ‘JUDE’ is currently located in the Indian Ocean near the Mozambique Channel, with forecasts predicting an increase in rainfall across different regions of Tanzania. This information was shared in a statement released on March 10. According to TMA, the cyclone is anticipated to make landfall in Mozambique later in the day and may weaken thereafter.
As per TMA’s analysis, Cyclone ‘JUDE’ is poised to venture back to the ocean, potentially regaining strength between March 13 and 15, 2025. However, the cyclone’s trajectory suggests that it is not expected to directly impact Tanzania. Nonetheless, its presence will likely alter weather systems, contributing to enhanced rainfall, particularly as the region approaches the long rainy season, known as Masika.
In light of these developments, TMA has advised both marine users and the general populace to remain informed by monitoring weather forecasts closely and following guidance from relevant authorities. They affirmed that updates regarding the cyclone’s path and effects will be communicated as required.
Historically, TMA had also issued warnings regarding another cyclone, Dikeledi, in January, which had been observed near the Mozambique coast. The authority emphasizes the importance of vigilance and necessary precautions as weather conditions continue to shift.
In conclusion, the Tanzania Meteorological Authority is actively monitoring Cyclone ‘JUDE’, which is poised to create significant rainfall throughout parts of Tanzania. While direct impacts on the region are not anticipated, the cyclone will influence weather patterns in the surrounding areas. Authorities advise the public to remain vigilant and heed guidance as conditions progress, particularly during the onset of the long rains season.
