Intensive Search Continues for Missing University of Pittsburgh Student in Dominican Republic
Sudiksha Konanki, a University of Pittsburgh student, has been missing in the Dominican Republic since March 6. An intensive search is underway, involving multiple agencies, as her friends continue to assist in the investigation. Law enforcement is exploring all potential scenarios regarding her disappearance.
The search for Sudiksha Konanki, a 20-year-old junior at the University of Pittsburgh, has been ongoing for four days since she disappeared while vacationing in the Dominican Republic. Konanki was last seen around 4:15 a.m. on March 6 when she entered the beach of the RIU hotel in Punta Cana, where she was staying with five college friends, who returned to the hotel without her.
Dominican Republic National Police initiated an extensive search, utilizing drones, helicopters, divers, boats, and canine units. They learned of the disappearance on March 6 and are currently interviewing her friends and individuals who were present at the beach during the incident. The police are reviewing video surveillance footage and cellphone data linked to Konanki and her acquaintances.
The RIU hotel expressed their concerns, emphasizing their cooperation with local authorities for a thorough investigation. They have set up an internal communication network among their staff to ensure effective dissemination of information about the search efforts. Family members of Konanki, who reside in Virginia, have also contacted local law enforcement to broaden the investigation, suggesting that alternatives such as kidnapping should be considered.
The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is collaborating with Dominican authorities and the U.S. State Department, while the FBI is prepared to provide assistance. Konanki’s college friends have opted to remain in the Dominican Republic to support search efforts, as authorities have not determined whether her disappearance stems from an accident or foul play.
The University of Pittsburgh is actively supporting Konanki’s family during this crisis, and the Indian Embassy is also involved in the investigation, as Konanki holds dual citizenship. In an effort to aid the search, local political representative Suhas Subramanyam has been in touch with Konanki’s family, pledging to utilize all available resources to ensure her safe return.
The ongoing search for Sudiksha Konanki highlights the collaboration between local authorities and various agencies to resolve her disappearance. As investigations continue to explore all possible scenarios, including the potential for foul play, the support from the University of Pittsburgh, her friends, and community leaders emphasizes the urgency and concern surrounding her case. The situation remains a priority as family and authorities hope for her swift and safe return.
